Second Chance CPR now in our 37th year of business is proud to continue delivering workplace First Aid training in accordance with the Ontario WSIB Regulation 1101 and as updated under the Canadian Standards Association CSA Z1210:24 standard, effective June 22, 2026. The new WSIB First Aid Program modernizes workplace training across Ontario by improving consistency, enhancing quality management standards for training providers, and aligning courses with current national evidence-based emergency care practices.
As part of the transition to CSA Z1210:24, course names are changing across Ontario workplaces. Emergency First Aid will now be recognized as Basic First Aid, while Standard First Aid will become Intermediate First Aid. Although the terminology is changing, these certifications will continue to meet the requirements of WSIB Regulation 1101, helping employers maintain compliance while ensuring workers receive practical, up-to-date lifesaving training.
The CSA Z1210:24 standard also establishes a nationally recognized framework for workplace First Aid training, supporting greater consistency and acceptance of training standards across Canada. These updates will empower workers with enhanced hands-on skills, improved emergency response knowledge, and greater confidence to respond effectively to workplace injuries, sudden illnesses, and medical emergencies until advanced care arrives.
In addition to training standards, Ontario workplaces may also comply with WSIB first aid kit requirements through CSA Z1220-17, the Canadian standard for workplace first aid kits, which provides nationally recognized guidelines for first aid kit contents, classifications, and workplace hazard assessments under WSIB Regulation 1101.
Second Chance CPR remains committed to helping businesses navigate these changes while delivering professional, compliant, and industry-leading First Aid and CPR education that supports safer workplaces throughout Ontario and across Canada.
