DID YOU KNOW? ONTARIO’S WORKPLACE FIRST AID PROGRAM HAS BEEN UPDATED
Effective June 22, 2026, the WSIB modernized its First Aid Program to align workplace training with CSA Z1210:24, Canada’s national standard for workplace first aid training.
What Ontario workplaces should know:
✅ Emergency First Aid is now called Basic First Aid
✅ Standard First Aid is now called Intermediate First Aid
✅ Workplaces with five or fewer employees per shift require at least one person with Basic First Aid
✅ Workplaces with six or more employees per shift require at least one person with Intermediate First Aid
✅ Certificates issued before June 22, 2026, remain valid until their expiry date
✅ Workplace training must be completed through a WSIB-approved provider
Although the training program has been modernized, Ontario Regulation 1101 has not changed. The new course names are equivalent to the certification levels identified in the regulation.
